Once a proud example of an exotic and unique African-American Hotel in the heart of old Pompano Beach, this decaying structure has stood faded, shuttered, and abandoned for several years.

CAROL- ANN ROGUS, FPSA
Fine art photographer

Artist's Statement

My passion for photography stems from the opportunity the medium provides to express my interest in, indeed fascination with, the world around me. Whether the subject is a person or flower, a bird or building, an animal or seashell, a landscape or cityscape, I aim to identify and capture what makes each special. Having worked with film for over 30 years, I found the ultimate satisfaction when I embraced digital photography that enables me to fine-tune my photography as well as to generate digital art using computer software. This allows me to take what the camera can capture to a new level that emulates Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art as well as graphic art, creating my own personal vision. Taking courses in fine art photography for well over a year has introduced me to yet another joyful level of self-expression.

Bio

Having begun photography as a teenager, Carol-Ann Rogus, FPSA has been hooked on photography ever since obtaining her first SLR in 1972. Her life changed as her interest and skill increased dramatically when she formally entered, and became active in, the world of serious amateur photography: She joined her first camera club in 1992 and, after serving in several positions, was elected its president. She also became an enthusiastic member of the Photographic Society of America (PSA), one of the largest international photographic organizations in the world with members in almost 80 countries devoted to the pursuit and enhancement of the arts and sciences of photography. In 1996 Carol was elected Chairman of PSA’s Cosmopolitan Chapter in New York City, shortly after was appointed director of PSA Region 14, and then was elected to the PSA Board of Directors for three two-year terms as Public Relations Vice President. Her continuing efforts on behalf of the Society and the photographic community have been recognized with various honors including a fellowship in PSA.

Carol became an active evaluator, judging slides, prints, and digital images at numerous camera clubs as well as international salons.

Many of her images have been published in the New York Times; in books, brochures and pamphlets; and as magnets, greeting cards, and calendars.

Over the years, Carol has been invited to present her various cultural and photojournalism slide shows in community and photography venues throughout the United States.
